Hussein Chalayan

This footage is from the fashion designer Hussein Chalayan's Spring/ Summer collection of 2007. The collection consists of transforming clothes that go from vintage 1900's style to the twenth century in the space of a minute. This collection was all about recycling vintage clothing and embrassing the latest in technological advances. There was five dresses in total that twitched, moved and morphed through the decades of their own accord. This was achieved with the use of a computer system designed by 2D3D and with hidden wires, chips and battries placed under the garments. This is a fantasic example of how fashion can still push boundaries and can still astonish the viewer. This is not the first time Chalayan has experimented with differnet technology and fabrics, another example is the wooden dress that doubles as a coffee table created for his Autumn/ WInter collection 2000. A further example is his video dress that was displayed in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago in America, there was a total of 24000 fully coloured LED lights embroidered onto the dress.
